About London Olympics

Source

I was not really into the Olympics fever, sad to say. I didn't see most of the games, but I did catch a few highlights and live games.

One in particular was the showdown between Lee Chong Wei and Lin Dan. There was this silly song people have made up about Lin Dan's victory and it goes like this:

London Bridge is for Lin Dan, for Lin Dan, for Lin Dan.

Being slow at these kind of things, it took me a while to realize that it sounds funnier if you actually sing it out instead of just seeing the words.

And I saw this rather interesting equestrian game called dressage. It's where horses are trained to dance to the beat of a song played. This horse with a German rider, could trot diagonally with its hooves perfectly following the beat of the song. And it could also dance/trot sideways! It was amazing what these beautiful creatures could do.

I've also heard about our very own Pandelela (took me a while to get the spelling right. I thought it was Pandalela. *embarrassed*), a diver from Sarawak. I saw her performance at the 10m board diving individual finals. No one could beat the girl from China but I was also impressed with Pandelela with her final 3 rounds. Her final dive was really cool and got great scores from the judge! So I cheered with Malaysians nationwide of her victory and our first bronze medal from her. Congratulations, Rimong!

Besides her, I also watched the finale of the badminton men's single match. The match put me at the edge of my seat (I think literally because by the third round, I was kneeling on the floor cheering for Lee Chong Wei).

And when the *cough* winner ran around with Lee Chong Wei on the floor suffering defeat temporarily, I broke down.

I was holding on to my pillow, just sitting there by the couch, crying my eyes out. Sobbing pathetically. It was a good thing I was watching alone (I was the only one in the family who watched the match. Some support. Ha ha) otherwise, they'd be irritated with my chants of "You can do this, Chong Wei! Just keep your head in the game [D: I just lost it]," or like "Focus, Chong Wei, FOCUS!"

Heck, I was even going "Shut up, crowd with the chants! He needs to FOCUS!"

Yep, good thing indeed. So when I went downstairs still crying, I told my parents the news that he didn't get the gold, my mom was pretty heartbroken. But nevertheless, I congratulated him for getting this far. I hope he becomes better if he gets to be in the Rio Olympics 2016.

Oh, which reminds me. When I read the news that Datuk Nicol David wants to take up archery to be in the 2020 Olympics, I was a bit shocked. But I just hope for the best. No one needs to know about my thoughts further into this matter :)

The highlights usually for me in this Olympics was definitely the opening and the closing ceremonies. I cheered when I saw Mr Rowan Atkinson. I applauded when the Queen was with Daniel Craig (as James Bond). I clapped when I saw Pandelela Rimong being the flag bearer. I cried when Sir Paul McCartney sang Hey Jude and the crowd chanted "Naaaa, na, na, nanana, na...!" in the bridge. I thank you, Mr McCartney for letting the crowd join in the song.

The surprising part of the closing was definitely One Direction belting out What Makes you Beautiful! Honestly, it was a let down because it felt so brief, their appearance.

The above caption is just an exaggeration. But I was practically wheezing at first glance of the boys.

[sidenote: LIAM, WHY DID YOU CUT YOUR HAIR? (no one cares about my opinion of his hair)]

I guess you could say that this is the first time I watched the Olympics this much. This should be a milestone somewhere in my journal!

As much as I hate youtube being an ass in the Safari window, I have to be grateful to youtube for streaming live matches in the Olympics channel for those who do not own a cable. Thanks for letting me have a chance to catch the opening and closing ceremonies live. And thanks for letting me watch Pandelela's diving rounds, too.
