It's been really painful not talking ecstatically about the Mika concert.
Because right after the concert, I zoomed my way back to King's Cross and to my campus to work on my dissertation.
But now that I've finally submitted it, here I am blogging about the concert! [Pictures would be uploaded soon because I'm using the library's PC.]
I arrived 20 minutes before 7. I befriended with these two girls named Becky and Emma who walked with me to the Roundhouse theater. I have not been sitting down ever since I reached London at around after 3pm. I met up with my friend L at H&M and, boy it was a sale like no other. I don't think even Malaysia could have a sale like that. A pair of H&M jeans for £7? That's a steal, man!
If you're wondering if I bought it, yeah I did. :)
Anyway, L and I hung out around Oxford street before going our separate ways. Emma, Becky and I waited in line for about an hour before we're finally in the Roundhouse building.
Thank God I didn't bother to pay to hang my coat otherwise I wouldn't be as near to the stage as I was last night. Well, it was not a super-close gap to the stage, but good enough to see Mika in the flesh.
Oh, my God. Mika. In the fraking flesh. It was surreal for me, to see one of my favorite singers perform on stage. To be honest, the crowd were not as rowdy as I thought they'd be. I'd hope that they'd be drunk enough to let loose and dance and jump and sing like crazy the way I did.
And I wasn't even drunk. Ha ha.
But it really took forever for him to appear on stage. I found the DJs' choice of music so-so because they couldn't bring up the hype from the crowd. We were cold, tired and listening to poorly DJ-ed tracks was not helpful. But all those memories were dusted off when the lights died down past 8.30 and Mika opened with a French soleil and then belted out Grave Kelly.
I wanted to strangle the people who were not jumping to his music. Come on, Brits, were you guys that stressed on the second last day of the semester? Sigh... Anyway, I was rather a bit surprised that there are a few old couples in the crowd. I'm sure they had a good time too because they at least tried to jump and dance to his music.
Two people down on my left was this girl singing along to the lyrics of his songs. Both of us noticed each other singing along and we just smiled in acknowledgement, knowing that there is a hard-core fan in sight. I was singing my head off, chanting the catchy, "doom, da da-di-da-di-doom, da da-di-da-di-doom" at the Love Today chorus, belting out "I ONLY LOVE YOU, I ONLY LOVE YOU, I ONLY LOVE, ONLY LOVE YOU, ONLY LOVE YOU WHEN I'M DRUNK!" and many more.
The funny bits were when his bass player leaped onto the piano and stole the spotlight, repeatedly singing the "doom, da da-di-da-di-doom, da da-di-da-di-doom", to the mocking annoyance of Mika.
My eyes felt like they've seen enough of the world the second his unbuttoned his shirt and ran around with the loose button-down for five minutes. Five minutes of exposing his slender-but-not-so-beefy torso and it was another moment of "I could die happy now".
The little downside? He didn't sing Blame it On the Girls. :(
I'm not sure how many people turned up for the concert last night, but I feel like the crowd in the Foster the People concert were more louder than this crowd.
Nevertheless, I saw Mika in the flesh. That's all it matters.
