To know that you have relatives living in Kent is a good thing.
To find out that you have an aunt and uncle living in London is another thing.
My grandaunt and granduncle mentioned about their daughter who had moved into London last year and suggested that we visit them before we headed back to Kent.
I couldn't believe it: I have an aunt and uncle in London!
Then another news hit me that might have made me fall from my chair.
My uncle is a graphic designer. Like, a big shot type.
Oh, no. Now I have expectations to live up to!
The conversation went like this:
Granduncle: P, guess what course she's doing.
Uncle P: What course?
G: [laughs] It's the last course anyone would take!
[Uncle P looks curiously at me]
Me: [shy] We both have something in common...
Uncle P: Graphic design?
G: Yes! [continues laughing]
Uncle P: Ah yes. [small chuckle]
Honestly, it's not the worst subject. I do not regret taking this subject. I enjoy the projects that I do, and it's the journey that counts. Well, in a way.
But, I was so nervous. As much as I love my course, I was so nervous answering questions that my uncle posed. I felt so timid by his presence that I couldn't answer his questions properly. But he seemed like a nice guy, who gave me some advice (which, to be honest, is quite the opposite with what my lecturers say back in TOA) and even asked me to send in my portfolio to him if I'm interested!
Knees weak, I kindly appreciated his interest to see my portfolio. Deep inside, I thought that it would be unfair to use blood relations to get into the industry, but let's put it as Plan B, then.
But then again, if I'm good, he'd recommend me, wouldn't he?
Oh, well. There are 24 more letters in the alphabet.
