First day back and the one to greet us to hell was none other than Spoon. Don't fret, this isn't his real name.
Anyway, it was an afternoon class and. He's a great lecturer. But I can't help but be bored when I see a lot of text and repetitive notes about our forthcoming essay. I couldn't keep myself reading on the track. One moment, I'm reading the first line, and the next moment, I'm reading another line, while he's reading the notes out loud.
In class yesterday, we were watching Art and Copy, a 2009 documentary on advertising. We were taken through campaigns such as "Just Do It", "Got Milk" and "I Love New York". It was a surprising news to know that the "Just Do It" slogan came from a criminal named Gary Gilmore.
We were also shown about a couple of workers who work on huge billboards in America, seeing how they post up the poster of Apple's "[love icon] iPod". Allow me to take my hat off to those who simply has no fear of heights with no safety railings.
Then we were also shown the "Got Milk" advertisements. Initially, we were shown the earlier posters of the campaign

This isn't the earlier posters, here's one of the "Got Milk?" ads. Then they approached celebrities to promote milk and their saying about the goodness of milk in their life.

I guess they're targeting the young audiences because teen idols are a trend these years. We have Miley who gained fame from Disney's Hannah Montana, which is watched by a million children in the U.S. Probably the consumption of milk among children needs to be improved, so that's why they need the young stars to influence the children to think that, "since Miley/Taylor Swift are also consuming milk, maybe we should too, since they say it's good for us."
So after the documentary, we now have to decide on what the heck are essay should be about. It's a free topic, so we can talk about what we'd like to write about, generally regarding on the graphic design practice. I wanted to talk about science fiction, since I got so interested in Fringe, Eureka and Heroes.
Welcome home, Elle.
Ugh.
